Betacarotene has antioxidant properties and is one of the most powerful quenchers of singlet oxygen. It can dissipate the energy of singlet oxygen, thus preventing this active molecule from generating free radicals. Beta Carotene is found in many plants and many animal tissues. For example its what causes orange colour in carrots.

Most recommendations for incorporations into cosmeceuticals are at around 0.01% to 0.02%. But don't be afraid to add more if you don't mind the orange colour which will fade over time when exposed to light.
